Don’t cry over spilled coffee

Office mishaps as told by office admins

What Day Is It?

On a Monday morning I found out that five important customers were coming that day. I spent the morning scrambling to get lunch arranged, clean up the office walls and prepare snacks for the group. As soon as I got it all coordinated, I learned that my boss gave me the wrong date. The group would arrive tomorrow.

Java Hijinks

Our CEO had gotten a new coffeepot and his assistant was out, which meant I had to make his coffee. I was still new at the time and very worried about making it right since I don’t drink coffee and therefore don’t make it on a regular basis. He decided to help since it was my first time using it. The coffee overflowed and went all over the place. I just about burst into tears and was on the floor cleaning it up. He saw how upset I was and assured me that it wasn’t my fault, but I was mortified.

Check the Clock

I was so excited about my first day at a new job that I couldn’t wait to get to work. I arrived at 8:15 a.m. and felt so good about myself until I noticed everyone else was already there. Another employee asked me why I looked so happy, and I said, “Because I got to work early!” Then she let me know that work officially started at 8 a.m. and that I was late. Not a great start.

Fat Finger

I got flustered by another co-worker, which caused me to accidentally enter an incorrect part number and hit a button that copied it to all the items in our system. I almost had a heart attack because I thought I’d have to manually fix thousands of entries! I didn’t know if my huge mistake could be fixed, but we have a server that backs up nonstop and they were able to stop everything and reinstate the last saved version. Thank goodness!

Bat Man to the Rescue

This week is the anniversary of the Great Bat Incident. There were only three of us still in the building when we spotted a bat. We let one co-worker escape from the building, leaving the two of us to deal with the situation. It took us several rounds of close encounters to scoop the bat into a box and release it.
