A rigorous academic program combined with the excitement of discovery makes for an engaging learning environment at the Glen Urquhart School (GUS). Here, students learn through hands-on projects and activities that help foster their innate curiosity while empowering them to become bold, independent thinkers and well-rounded citizens. Established in 1977 on 23 acres in Beverly Farms, MA, the school has long encouraged the concepts of teamwork, diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility. GUS’s progressive education integrates academic skill development, experiential learning and social-emotional understanding. A thematic curriculum allows for integrated study across multiple subjects, providing endless opportunities for hands-on learning. Whether it’s a 4th-grade trip to clean up a local beach and record data as part of a world-wide volunteer effort for the Ocean Conservancy or the 8th-grade musical production that involves the entire class, students are actively engaged in their learning and valued for their participation at every level. Exploration, challenge, and discovery remain guiding philosophies at Glen Urquhart School, where students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade are taught to be passionate in their pursuit of knowledge. Our community welcomes 400 boarding and day students to our campus and prides itself on a warm, welcoming, and compassionate culture. Individualized learning and empowerment is a cornerstone of our program, a focus that extends beyond the classroom to athletics, the arts, clubs, community service, and experiential learning (via our Winterim program).
